I love Christmas fruitcake. It was just a punchline growing up and I don’t recall ever having it before moving to London. It was not what I was expecting. It’s dense, dark, heavy with sultanas and currants and almonds, flavours well-rounded after ageing with brandy for a few months. I’ve never made my own because I always think of it too late but mostly because you can get a perfectly good fruitcake at any grocery store.
